OpenNMP will expand your NMP (Network Media Player) features.


[FOREWORD]
Open-NMP makes easy the installation and development of new applications on the NMP.
It implements a NPKG packages system and enables the Optware IPKG modules installation on the QNAP NMP MIPS based platforms to provide access to the numerous applications.
I hope it will help you to enjoy even more your NMP-1000.
The current OpenNMP development status is still alpha .

[FEATURES]
OpenNMP installs on an external USB device (thumb-drive or HDD) and to provide:

• List editor for YouTube, SHOUTcast, Flickr and Internet Radios
• A/V Programmable recording (Internet Radio, TV and Streaming)
• Remote Replication of the data with a distant QNAP NAS
• Web Server to host websites & web based application (PHP 5 / SQLite)
• Date and Time synchronization with NTP server

[NPKG REPOSITORY]
OpenNMP host a Plug-ins packaging system (NPKG) which can connect to a remote Repository.
To access the NPKG repository you will have to provide the following URL:
http://www.qnapclub.fr/openNMP/NPKG/npkg.en.info

NOTE: NPKG tagged as "Not recommended for NMP-1000" are functional but does not ensure an acceptable level of performances. They are provided only as tutorial material.

Because OpenNMP is intended to provide a development platform for NMPs, you are welcome to develop your own applications and make available new NPKGs. A NPKG sample is provided with OpenNMP to give you the complete file structure.

[IMPORTANT]
Several users have reported issues with USB thumbdrives whereas USB HDDs are always working proprerly. I recommand to use USB ReadyBoost thumbdrives which are aimed to support heavy R/W operations whereas low-end cheap USB thumbdrives are targeted for data storage only.

[TROUBLESHOOTING]

• Cannot install or does not run properly on my USB thumbdrive - Please read the "important note" here above.
• In FF3 console pop-ups the open dialog box - Clear your browser cache.

Update 23 November 2009:

Dear NMP'ers,

OpenNMP is progressing step by step and we release today the 2nd distribution.

Here is the list of change (read CHANGELOG for details)

• Media Service v2.0 - Support for Internet Radio Recording
• Add AjaXplorer v2.3.9 as pre-installed package (see limitation below)
• Improve installation script and distribution package is now a ZIP file
• Improved installation time for IPKG modules
• Improve robustness regarding Shared folder management
• Fix bug for IPKG module detection

[INSTALLATION]

• Extract the 3 files from the distrib archive on you NMP internal drive or 2nd USB thumbdrive
• Change directiry to the extracted files location
• Start and upgrade using ./installer.sh - not fully tested
• OR reinstall from scratch with ./installer.sh --force-reinstall *

* to save your customized Media lists, copy the *.conf files from the <your_usb>/.npkg/media_services/inc/*.conf folder. After the re-installation, move back the files and press RESTORE for each media to restore your custom configuration.

[KNOWN ISSUES] OpenNMP is still in ALPHA status
CRITICAL: Do not upload files bigger than 12MB otherwise the NMP hangs-up and you will have to Power-off. This is a Lighttpd issue not easy to tackle - help is welcomed!

Update 30 November 2009:

Dear OpenNMP'ers

The OpenNMP version 0.3.17 is available.
While OpenNMP is in Alpha status, re-installation is preferred but if you encounter issues during upgrade, thanks to feedback.

• Fix limit for uploaded files (THX to schumaku)
• add NPKG script progression bars
• Implement web system for future OpenNMP upgrade

Dear OpenNMP'ers,

Here is the v0.03.20 that includes the automatic OpenNMP engine update.
If you choose to upgrade to v0.3.20 rather than doing a re-installation, there are some cosmetic fixes (images renaming) which lead you to upgrade your My-PVR and Media-Services NPKGs.

[MANUAL INSTALLATION]
Download the file above.
Unzip the 3 files on the NMP internal HDD or on a 2nd USB drive.

[FEATURES]

• Supports Rich Internet Application libraries (JQuery)
• Implements a Programmable A/V Recorder thanks to a multi-purpose scheduler
• Record RTSP and MMS streams (MMS are supported through 'mmsrip' which does not handle every MMS streams and may fail to reconnect to URL sometimes)
• OpenNMP v0.04.01 archive is provided with the AjaXplorer, Media Services, My-PVR, Remote Backup and Sample NPKGs
• IE support the Ajax debugging console - 3 different logs can be displayed

[INSTALLATION]
Due to the important changes we do recommend to proceed with a fresh installation:

• Backup your data (services lists conf files are under /share/OpenNMP/.npkg/media_services/inc)
• Download the archive v0.04.01 .
• Extract the 3 files into the archive in the NMP-1000 /share/Download folder.
• Start the installation with the command below
• Re-install the NPKGs that you need
